Despite the fact that tablets are quite a new category of devices they have already managed to overtake the number of web page views on smartphones and their insight into everyday life increases very quickly. ABI Research predicts that this year the part of tablets will be more than one third (35%) of the whole income from mobile applications – and this is 8,8 billion from 25 billion dollar “pie”. However the amount is significantly lower that the income from applications for smartphones which is going to reach 16,4 billion dollars this year according to predictions. However ABI believes that tablets will beat the income of smartphones already in 2018 – i.e. in nearest five years.

The reasons of such quick increase of the income from applications for tablets ABI calls big screens of this type of devices that developers may use to create attractive products and invention of inexpensive tablets that contribute the level of insight of such devices and the number of downloads of applications for them.

The experts also add that the category of tablets has a good position in computer device market so it can reach new demographic groups – children and elderly people.

Concerning mobile operating systems ABI predicts that this year the main part of income will belong to Apple iOS – 65% of the whole income, Android will generate a little more than a quarter – 27%. The part of other mobile platforms will be only 8% of income (the accurate sharing among certain mobile OS was not mentioned).

Despite the leading position in income the part of Apple iOS according to the latest predictions will be only 33% of downloads of applications for smartphones, Android will generate 58% of downloads.
